#Microsoft held its big #Windows10 event unveiling many features, that it will work on PCs, laptops, tablets, phones, IoT devices and the #Xbox One, plus the all-important fact that for the first year it would be a free update for Windows 7 and 8.1 users.

The company showed off the new #Continuum features, improved design of the OS and how Cortana would be integrated into the OS. T...

Much has been made of Microsoft’s recent hardware event with a number of updated devices and the surprise that is the #Surface Book announcement. But, aside from the devices there was one other key take away from the event, the enthusiasm and high levels of sass from some of the presenters. With phrases such as “you can be productive like a boss” being used during the demo of Continuum on the #Lum...

#Microsoft delivered on its promise of new devices today, surprising and delighting the assembled masses with a wide range of new hardware announcements. The leaks and rumours of the past few weeks and months perhaps lessened some of the excitement but Microsoft sure made up for that.

Kicking the event off Microsoft revealed that #HoloLens Developer Kits will be available in Q1 of 2016 and will c...

Following Apple’s September 9th event I wrote that the biggest surprise of all was that #Microsoft had been vindicated on a number of its strategies but most obviously with its #Surface devices (http://www.piptell.com/Home/Pip/4376). Since then Microsoft has only continued to be vindicated with a number of other companies either announcing or planning to announce similar devices.

Today saw Google...

Apple’s event only had 1 real surprise, an endorsement from the company that Microsoft’s software, hardware and productivity strategies are working. In the months and weeks leading up to the event much of what #Apple announced had already been leaked so the new #iPadPro, incremental update to the #iPhone and reinvention of the Apple TV were expected. What I, and many others, didn’t expect was just...

I've been wanting to try out the #Windows10 Mobile Preview since it was first available, however I didn't want to try out the unstable OS on my daily driver, the #Lumia 1020. That all changed yesterday when I picked up a new Lumia 640 XL and immediately opted it into the Windows Preview and now I am sitting here with a Windows 10 phone next to me.

I was expecting a slow, frustrating experience ...

Now the #Windows10 Day dust is beginning to settle #Microsoft is providing some initial information and stats about the rollout of the free upgrade. Most interestingly after just 24 hours there are now 14 million devices running Windows 10.

I assume that somewhere between 5 - 6 million of those are from the Windows Insiders but even so that means that Microsoft is 1.4% of its way along to achie...

Sadly I have now left the golden beaches, warmer climes and MWC of Barcelona behind and am now sitting in a cafe in a much colder London. I thought I would share with you my reflections of Microsoft's presence at #MWC15, there was more than I was expecting.

It was rather unfortunate that #Microsoft inadvertently revealed its two new Lumia devices, the #Lumia 640 and its larger sibling the Lumia...

The Calcalist financial news website is reporting today that #Microsoft has purchased N-trig, the Israeli company that provides chips and technology for digital pens. Microsoft uses N-trig's technology in its #SurfacePro3 for the Pen accessory allowing users to draw and write on the screen as they would with a pen and paper.

Microsoft, already an investor in N-trig owning 6%, is thought to have...

Today #Microsoft has released an update for the #SurfacePro3 that fixes a few small graphics related bugs in #Windows10. After installing this update I am now able to watch videos in Internet Explorer on Windows 10, something that hadn't worked since installing the new OS.

The update is a more recent driver for the Intel HD Graphics 5000 chipset found in the #Surface Pro 3. You can get this upd...

#Microsoft wasn't content with just announcing new features for #Windows10 on PCs, tablets and phones yesterday with the company also announcing 2 new devices and experiences. In this Pip I will provide an overview of the Surface Hub, in a following Pip I will look at #HoloLens.

Read my Pip covering all the new Windows 10 features - http://www.piptell.com/Home/Pip/4295 and all the new features ...

I have already covered the changes that are coming in #Windows10 but I thought I would also cover the specific changes that will affect #WindowsPhone users when they upgrade to the new OS. You can read about Windows 10 in depth here - http://www.piptell.com/Home/Pip/4294

Name

First things first, the name of the Windows 10 version for phones will be Windows 10. There had been much speculation ab...
